SUBSTANCE: arrester that can be used to manufacture gas-discharge devices, including gap-arresters, for handling high energy levels and for protecting equipment and communication lines against voltage surges has at least two electrodes spaced apart through certain distance. Filling gas is mixture of argon, hydrogen, and neon, proportion of ingredients being as follows, volume percent: argon, 60-84; hydrogen, 8-20; neon, 8- 20; product of gas mixture divided by distance between electrodes exceeds 2 mm of mercury/cm. EFFECT: enhanced operating stability of arrester under heavy-current and high-power conditions. 1 cl, 1 tbl
