FIELD: treatment of ends of springs of large-sized articles by means of abrasive wheels. SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes setting the grinding wheel and spring in rotary motion and pressing the spring to grinding wheel which is set in reciprocating motion along end of spring. Treatment is performed by peripheral surface of grinding wheel for removal of surplus by parts during several cycles of feed; spring is fixed in axial direction after each cycle. Device proposed for realization of this method has transport unit with bed frame, freely rotating bearing rollers for placing and transporting the springs and grinding wheel heads located on both sides of transportation unit and spring feed mechanism. Hold-down rollers mounted above bed frame are provided with vertical motion drive and spring discrete feed drive. Each grinding wheel head is provided with reciprocating motion drive and two grinding wheels whose peripheral parts are opposite to spring feed mechanism which is made in form of axially movable quill provided with rotation drive; quill is provided with spring-loaded cams at its one end and cam clamping drive at other end. Quill is connected with spring discrete feed drive. EFFECT: improved quality of treatment; extended range of application; smooth wear of grinding wheels. 3 cl, 3 dwg
