FIELD: railway transport; automatic couplers of cars, locomotives and other vehicles. SUBSTANCE: proposed automatic coupler consists of shank 2 with elongated hole to receive wedge and head part 1 accommodating coupling mechanism. Thrust surface 12 of projection 10 of lock 8 of automatic coupler mechanism and limiting edge 11 of housing opening are made with equal slope to line of action of spring 9 pressing lock 8, and vertex of angle formed by vertical axis passing through center of lift shaft and plane passing along thrust surface 12 of projection 10 of lock 8 pressed to limiting edge 11 of housing opening is located in inner space of head part of automatic coupler housing. Guide boss 15 is made on inner vertical wall of housing head part 1 from side of tenon 13 for spring 9. Guide boss is located between limiter of lock 14 and tenon 13 for spring 9. Flat is formed on end face of shank 2 of automatic coupler housing whose width is equal to or exceeds width of elongated hole for wedge. Invention precludes skewing of spring-loaded lock and eliminates bending moment in middle part of shank bridge.
