METHOD OF MANUFACTURE OF SPRING ARTICLES Russian patent published in 2004 - IPC

FIELD: mechanical engineering and metallurgy; manufacture of metal- ware, such as railway terminals. SUBSTANCE: proposed method is used for manufacture of spring articles, mainly shaped springs from steels containing 0.38-0.42% of carbon, 1.5-1.8% of silicon and 0.6-0.8% of manganese. Proposed method includes heat treatment of rolled stock and/or articles, calibration and treatment by means of cutting tools followed by cold bending and final heat treatment. Heat treatment performed before calibration at reduction to 3-4% and after treatment with cutting tools at removal of surface layer of 5-6% of diameter of calibrated blank makes it possible to obtain tensile strength of σr.st=650-730 Mpa, relative reduction of ψ=47-55%, relative elongation of δ5= 20-35%; after cold bending and before final heat treatment, hot bending is performed. Proposed method may b used for bending shaped articles, such as railway terminals at relative radius of bending and ratio of radius of rounded-off edge of bending die to radius of blank equal to 1.85 and lesser due to optimization of mechanical properties.
