FIELD: machine-tool industry, in particular, working of wood by cutters fastened to rotating shafts. SUBSTANCE: the cutter shaft represents a shaft of low-carbon mild steel, with a layer of strong carbon steel applied onto the surface of its cylindrical working part by welding or spraying. Preliminarily the shaft body is subjected to backing-off on a spiral curve. The angular extent of the backing-off is carried through the whole value of the angle between the adjacent cutting members. At a single-cutter shaft-through 360 deg., at a double-cutter shaft-through 180 deg. An active cutting section of the cutting member is formed in the points of location of the cutting members on the shaft surface on their front surface with the aid of a shaped abrasive wheel. The cutting edge with an after charging angle is formed on the built-up, strong layer of metal. At each resharpening the whole profile of the cutting member is renewed. In the process of resharpening the cutting member moves in a spiral curve. EFFECT: provided conduction of the process of plaining by one cutting member, optimized process of planing, use of shaft metal for shaping of cutters, multiple restoration of the shaft. 2 cl, 9 dwg
