FIELD: polymer production. SUBSTANCE: preparation of catalyst comprises preparing magnesium-containing carrier followed by interaction of resulting carrier with titanium tetrachloride and alkylaromatic ether, wherein magnesium-containing carrier is obtained in two stages including reaction of magnesium metal with aromatic halide in presence of an ether to form slurry containing organomagnesium compound and solid phase followed by consecutive interaction of the slurry with silicon alkoxy derivative and then with an electronodonor compound, in particular alcohol or cyclic ether. Catalytic polymerization of 1-hexene is conducted at temperature between 0 to 50(r). Thus obtained polymers may find use in various areas, in particular as agents reducing hydrodynamic resistance, for example when pumping oil through pipeline.
