FIELD: paint and varnish industry. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for preparing drying oils that are used in manufacturing varnishes, enamels, priming substances and other multiply paint and varnish materials used as protective, decorative, insulating and other organic covers. Drying oil is prepared by the sequential addition petroleum-polymeric resin to oil POD wherein this resin is a product of polymerization of styrene with (C₈-C₉)-compounds of pyrolysis fraction taken in the weight ratio = (5-50):1 followed by addition of siccative and solvent to the cooled reaction mixture. Oil POD is used of the following composite, wt.-%: cyclohexylidenecyclohexanone, up to 40; cyclohexyl esters, up to 60; cyclohexanol, up to 20; mono- and dicarboxylic acid sodium salts, up to 24; products of polymerization and polycondensation, up to 45.
