MECHANICAL PACKER Russian patent published in 2004 - IPC

FIELD: gas-and-oil production industry; completion and operation of oil and gas wells.

SUBSTANCE: proposed mechanical packer includes mandrel with shaped slot on outer surface having longer and shorter sections. Support is rigidly connected with mandrel. Located under this support are sealing member and cone with inclined flat faces smoothly distributed over circumference. Cone is mounted for axial displacement relative to mandrel and is radially locked relative to mandrel by means of key. Mounted under cone for axial displacement relative to mandrel is holder with toothed sockets smoothly distributed over its circumference; these sockets are pressed to mandrel by means of springs; their inner surfaces are made in form of inclined flat faces. Holder is provided with guide pin received by shaped slot of mandrel. Inclined flat faces of toothed sockets are parallel to flat faces of contact when they are in contact. Lower portion of holder is provided with ring which is radially rotatable relative to holder but is rigidly connected with holder in axial direction.

EFFECT: avoidance of extension of sockets beyond gauge of packer in transportation position; increased contact area of sockets and cone; avoidance of radial rotation of mandrel relative to holder.
