SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the improved method for preparing β-(4-hydroxy-3,5-di-tert.-butylphenyl)-propionic acid salts of the formula
that are used as stabilizing agents for polymers and addition agents to oils wherein Me means metal taken among the group: Zn, Ba, Ca, Cd, Al, Sn, Pb, Mg, Cr3+, Mn2+; n means valence = 2-4. Method is carried out by interaction of β-(4-hydroxy-3,5-di-tert.-butylphenyl)-propionic acid methyl ester with alkaline metal hydroxide at temperature 25-1000C, under pressure 1-4 atm, in an aqueous-alcoholic medium followed by interaction of prepared propionic acid alkaline salt with the corresponding metal inorganic salt at temperature 45-1000C in solvent medium. Dioctyl phthalate is used as a solvent at the stage of exchange reaction between propionic acid salt and inorganic salt wherein mixture of inorganic salt with dioctyl phthalate is added to propionic acid alkaline salt in the mole ratio propionic acid alkaline salt : metal inorganic salt = 1:(0.25-0.51). Method provides simplifying and improving technology in preparing β-(4-hydroxy-3,5-di-tert.-butylphenol)-propionic acid salts.
