FIELD: electrical engineering; electrodes for alkali fuel cells.

SUBSTANCE: proposed electrode has insulating frame with holes to admit and discharge chemical agents; gauze current collector embedded in frame and provided with leads brought out of frame; active and cutoff layers successively applied to gauze current collector; points where current collector and leads are embedded in insulating frame and perimeter of current collector along internal edge of insulating frame are covered with sealing layer that can be made of material unwettable by electrolyte, such as fluoroplastic. As to electrode manufacturing process, it includes manufacture of gauze current collector with leads, successive coating of gauze current collector with active and cutoff layers, and embedding of current collector and leads into insulating frame; prior to applying active and cutoff layers to current collector, edges of the latter and leads are impregnated with vanish solution at points where they are embedded in frame, and after current collector is embedded in frame, collector perimeter along internal edge of insulating frame is impregnated with varnish solution. Solvent wetting gauze current collector is used as varnish solvent and material forming solid electrolyte-unwettable film upon evaporation of solvent is used as varnish.

EFFECT: extended service life of electrode.
