FIELD: tobacco industry, in particular, processing of tobacco for reducing or removal of nitrosamines, in particular, specific tobacco nitrosamines, from tobacco.

SUBSTANCE: method involves subjecting tobacco to processing by means of extracting above-critical liquid for extraction of nitrosamines from tobacco, with tobacco used having pH value less than 6.5 and being cut tobacco, leaf tobacco, powdered tobacco, recovered tobacco or any combination of said kinds of tobacco. Apparatus for extraction of nitrosamines is made in the form of closed contour comprising first chamber for processing of tobacco with above-critical liquid, second chamber wherein removal of nitrosamines occurs, and device for interconnecting said chambers. Apparatus has above-critical liquid source for supplying of said liquid by means of liquid pumping device through closed contour, and material adapted for removal of nitrosamines and placed in second chamber. According to second version, apparatus is made in the form of closed contour comprising chamber provided with inlet and outlet interconnected with each other through connecting device, liquid pumping device, and nitrosamines removal device. Said apparatus is adapted for processing tobacco of Berley and Virginia types, and "American blend" type tobacco mixture.

EFFECT: increased efficiency in reducing of nitrosamine content in tobacco.
