FIELD: mechanization of forest regulation works, in particular, discrete action-type tree planting machines.

SUBSTANCE: tree planting machine has shank with gripping and planting mechanism, which is pivotally fixed on carrier positioned for rotation relative to frame of tree planting machine and is connected to hydraulic cylinder mounted on frame and controlled during operation by means of hydraulic distributor equipped with change-over mechanism connected to tractor hydraulic system. Shank is furnished with retaining mechanism for retaining relative to carrier in deepened and withdrawn positions, said mechanism operating on the principle of spring-loaded on-off switches or ratchet-type engagement means. Retaining mechanism allows one of hydraulic cylinders to provide, in desirable sequence, rocking motions of carrier and shank, with the latter being moved from inclined position to vertical position upon deepening thereof into soil, and vertically withdrawn from soil.

EFFECT: provision for forming of interrupted slit without soil clogging of shank, improved quality of tree planting, and wider range of tree planting equipment.
