SUBSTANCE: method involves feeding plant material to receiving chamber; forming individual portions of plant material in accumulating chamber; pressing plant material by means of piston in pressing chamber and pushing into density regulating chamber; directing formed bale to relaxation chamber and holding for 10 min for final fixing of form, followed by feeding bale into vehicle. Apparatus has pickup device and receiving chamber with packer. Accumulating chamber with packer and pressing chamber with press are provided downstream of receiving chamber. Pressing density regulating chamber and relaxation chamber are provided downstream of pressing chamber. In relaxation chamber bale is processed so that it loses resiliency and acquires its final shape. Method allows strong and low volume bales to be produced from harvested plant material having increased moisture content.

EFFECT: increased strength and reduced volume of bale produced from plant material with increased moisture content.
