FIELD: testing engineering.
SUBSTANCE: method of determining the long-term strength of rocks by the short-term testing of samples is based on the correspondence of the crack formation level in the rock to the duration of the ultrasonic pulse. The method comprises loading the sample, determining duration of the ultrasonic pulse, plotting a curve of sounding from the results of the tests, and judging the value of the long-term strength of rock by the position of the point of intersection of the curve with the loading axis. When the load exceeds this point, the sample of rock is destructed.
EFFECT: enhanced accuracy of measurements.
