FIELD: electrical engineering; heavy-current (several hundreds of kiloamperes) converter substations for aluminum industry.
SUBSTANCE: proposed converter substation has at least one step-down power transformer whose high-voltage winding is connected to high-voltage supply mains and low-voltage winding is split into two parts; n converters, each incorporating converter transformer; and at least one bridge rectifier; each converter transformer has mains and rectifier windings, as well as at least one winding affording phase shifts of voltage across rectifier winding relative to supply voltage, two design alternates of converters with respect to absolute value of phase shift of converter transformer being available; converter transformers of k converters are connected to one of low-voltage winding parts of step-down power transformer; converter transformers of (n - k) remaining converters are connected to other part of low-voltage winding of step-down power transformer; novelty is that each of k converters whose converter transformers are connected to one part of step-down power transformer low-voltage winding are proposed to be made in one design alternate with respect to absolute value of phase shift and other of (n - k) converters whose converter transformers are connected to other part of low-voltage winding of step-down power transformer are to be made in other design alternate with respect to phase shift, where n and k is quantity of converters, that is, 4 ≤ n ≤ 16; 2 ≤ k ≤ 8.
EFFECT: improved current distribution among parallel-running converters, enhanced throughput power, efficiency, and operating reliability.
