FIELD: metallurgy, namely method for casting horizontal ingot.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of pouring metal into ingot mold; heating surface of ingot metal, providing solidification and cooling of ingot. Metal is poured into special fitting in the form of thermos consisting of heavy stool, ingot mold having walls with variable heat conductivity lowering from downwards to upwards, lid lined with heat insulation plates and arranged onto ingot mold. Method provides directed crystallization of metal and directed cooling of ingot at rate no more than 15°C/h. Invention allows produce high quality horizontal ingot whose height to reduced diameter relation is less than 1.
EFFECT: less loss of yield at making thick sheet and plates of carbon and alloyed steels.
