FIELD: plastic metal working, possibly rolling blanks in rough and intermediate stands of bar and billet rolling mills.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of guiding between rolls strip with cross section in the form of parallelogram having relation of maximum diagonal length to minimum diagonal length in range 1.01 - 1.1; deforming strip at holding lateral faces of strip in deformation region. According to invention strip is guided while orienting its lateral faces normally to roll axes. Lateral faces of strip are hold along length from plane of strip inlet to deformation region in rolling direction; said length is determined with use of expression S = k x L, where S - length along which strip is held; L - length of deformation region; k - coefficient equal to 0.1 - 0.2 at 1.01≤ dmax/dmin ≤ 1.04 and equal to 0.21 - 0.45 at 1.04 ≤ dmax/dmin ≤ 1.1 where dmax - maximum diagonal length of parallelogram; dmin -minimum diagonal length of parallelogram.
EFFECT: improved stability of strip, enhanced quality of ready product, lowered cost of making product.
