FIELD: oil pollution removal.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to processes of treating fresh and sea water polluted with emulsified petroleum derivatives, mineral and food oils and can be used for fine purification of waste waters from various enterprises as well as formation and oil-field waters. Method comprises adding cationic flocculant to water being treated followed by filtration, process being carried out in continuous mode within pH range 7.0 to 10.5 and, as flocculant, solution of chitosan in amounts 1 to 300 mg per 1 L treated water being used. Preferably, treatment of water is effected at pH 8.0-10.5 and temperature of water from 0 to 75^°C. Filtration is conducted using hydrophilic and/or hydrophobic sorbent, the former being sand or quartz sand, or clayclite, or zeolite and the latter active carbon or hydrophobized aluminosilicate materials. Hydrophobic sorbent can, in particular, be filtration filling consisted of two beds of hydrophobized aluminosilicate material, first bed material having particle size 5-25 mm and the second 0.1-3.0 mm.

EFFECT: intensified water treatment process due to formation of floccules.
