FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines.
SUBSTANCE: proposed muffler has housing made in form of ellipsoid with front and rear end face walls and intake and exhaust branch pipes, cross partitions dividing housing into chambers and noise-absorbing material, for instance, basalt fiber, filling inner space adjoining housing outer wall. Housing of muffler has double walls and four aerodynamic flow series-connected chambers from intake side: first active chamber, first reactive chamber, second reactive chamber, second active chamber. Intake and exhaust branch pipes are noncoaxial, being secured by one end of front end face wall of housing. Intake branch pipe is made perforated in places of passing through first active and second reactive chambers and is provided with perforated stopper from side of rear end face wall, and two cylindrical perforated pipes with perforated stoppers from side of front end face wall are installed inside first reactive chamber symmetrically and at both sides from longitudinal axis of housing. Third partition in direction of intake of aerodynamic flow is made perforated. Brass wall or layer of pressed metal stainless chips is found behind perforated surface of active chambers of muffler.
EFFECT: improved efficiency of exhaust noise damping of internal combustion engine.
