FIELD: works for oil and gas reserves prospecting, particularly investigating permeability, pore volume, or surface area of porous materials.
SUBSTANCE: method involves performing thermostating of cleaned and dried rock sample in hydraulic system having predetermined dead zone volume Vrc, which may provide formation pressure; evacuating hydraulic system containing rock sample; applying pressure to the sample so that the sample is compressed from all sides; continuously saturating sample with fluid so that pressure in open sample pores increases to value equal to formation pressure along with maintaining constant effective pressure value; measuring summary fluid volume VΣ, which is necessary for sample saturation up to formation pressure stabilization; determining open porosity of the sample as difference between VΣ and Vrc volumes.
EFFECT: possibility to determine open sample porosity in-place conditions.
