FIELD: mechanical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for cooling internal combustion engines with conversion of part of thermal energy removed from engine by cooling system into other types of energy for further use. Method includes circulation of working medium, level of liquid working medium in cooling spaces being lower than upper outlet of spaces, and level in coolers being maintained not higher than middle line of coolers. Energy of steam flow is converted into mechanical energy by means of turbine. Vacuum is maintained in coolers by means of compressor or vacuum pump. Closed liquid circulation cooling device is changed over to operate as closed evaporation cooling device in coolers of which vacuum is maintained. Turbine is installed on steam pipeline between cooling spaces of engine and coolers, and water is used as working medium and/or high-boiling low-freezing temperature organic liquids.
EFFECT: enlarged operating capabilities.
