FIELD: plastic metal working.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be bused in manufacture of articles, mainly rod-type ones, with curvilinear support surface of head. According to proposed method, article is fitted in cutoff die with subsequent cutting off, with separation of cut off metal from article, of periphery sections of head by punch from side of end face surface with simultaneously thrusting support surface of head against cutoff die. Cutting off of head is done with thrust of head of article against die by part of support surface, and cutting off of all or separate peripheral sections is carried out without their support on cutoff die. Moreover, nonsimultaneous separation of cut off metal from article is provided, and cutting off is carried out with thrusting of head against die by part of support surface of head adjoining the rod. When cutting off heads of articles with non-uniform thickness of peripheral sections, thinner peripheral section are cut off without thrusting against cutoff die, and separation of cut off metal from article is done first at peripheral sections of smaller thickness.
EFFECT: improved quality of cutting off.
