FIELD: air conditioning.
SUBSTANCE: method comprises flowing air through the system of corona electrodes arranged in the air duct. The system is energized by alternating voltage pulses whose amplitude within both of the half periods exceeds the threshold of corona discharge. The system of corona electrodes is divided into two same groups that are positioned one in the vicinity of the other. The high-voltage pulses are selected in polarity and the pulses of different polarities are directed to different groups of corona electrodes. The concentration of ions and unipolarity coefficient of the ions is controlled by means of changing the duration of pulses of positive and negative polarity. The bipolar ion generator comprises the second group of corona electrodes identical to the first group and positioned in the vicinity of the first group.
EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of ionization and reliability and longevity of corona electrodes.
