FIELD: steganography, namely, methods for identification of digital images, containing a digital watermark.

SUBSTANCE: in accordance to invention, native characteristic image vectors from teaching selection are built, which image vectors include statistical characteristics, calculated from distribution of wavelet coefficients and from distributions of wavelet coefficient prediction error within various sub-ranges. Teaching selection includes two image classes: digital images, containing watermarks, and digital images, not containing watermarks. After teaching of classifier, based on discriminant analysis, classification of analyzed image is performed, i.e. it is related to one of the classes. Therefore it is possible to identify the digital image with a watermark, i.e. to distinguish original image, protected by copyrights, from its copies, produced by printing and scanning.

EFFECT: possible identification of digital images, containing digital watermarks, under conditions of absence of a priori information about presence of digital watermark in the image and about the rule in accordance to which digital watermark is integrated.
