FIELD: nuclear power engineering; bulk-core reactors.
SUBSTANCE: proposed nuclear reactor has vessel accommodating side, bottom ,and top reflectors, bulk core, coolant circulation loop, control and protection system. Disposed under core is heat-accumulating material with cavity that communicates with core through hole in bottom reflector. Heat-accumulating material is disposed in shell mounted on reactor vessel. Coolant channels are disposed in heat-accumulating material. Bottom reflector is designed for vertical displacement. Nuclear reactor operating process includes formation of bulk core of fuel elements between bottom, top, and side reflectors and coolant circulation from bottom upwards through core. Fuel elements are dropped from core to cavity formed by heat-accumulating material under core through hole in bottom reflector at coolant flow force acting on fuel elements lower than gravity force of fuel elements.
EFFECT: enhanced reliability.
