FIELD: environment protection; recovery of radioactive wastes by immobilizing them in solid inert matrix resistant to environmental impacts.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method for immobilizing highly active waste in ceramic matrix includes mixing of highly active waste calcification product with calcium and iron oxides, proportion of ingredients being as follows, mass percent: highly active waste calcification product, 45-55; CaO, 5-15; Ge2O3, 35-45; heating of this mixture in oxidizing atmosphere at pressure not lower than atmospheric value to maximal working temperature ranging between 1 100 and 2 000 °C; weathering up to formation of ceramic material crystals; and cooling down until monolithic material suited to long-time storage is formed.
EFFECT: enhanced content of highly active waste calcification end product at low leaching rate of actinic and rare-earth elements.
