FIELD: environment control; recovery of radioactive waste by way of their immobilization in solid inert matrix immune to environmental impacts.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes mixing of highly active calcined waste with titanium, calcium, manganese, iron, and aluminum oxides, proportion of ingredients being as follows, mass percent: highly active calcined waste, 10-20; TiO2, 50-60; CaO, 7.5-12.5; Fe2O3, 2.5-7.5; Al2O3, 2.5-7.5. Mixture is heated in oxidative environment at pressure below atmospheric value to maximal working temperature of 2000 °C. Then it is exposed to working temperature and cooled down until monolithic material suited to long-time storage is formed.
EFFECT: enhanced chemical stability of ceramic matrix, reduced leaching of actinide and rare-earth elements.
