METHOD FOR PREPARING OF SPECIAL BULB ONION FOR STORAGE Russian patent published in 2008 - IPC A23B7/10 

FIELD: process for preparing of fresh bulb onion for storage in order to use it in space feeding.

SUBSTANCE: method involves sequentially extracting biomass of Mortierella humilis micromycet using non-polar extractant in super-critical state, water, alkali, water, acid, water, alkali, and water; joining first extract with solid residue for producing of preparation from biomass; sterilizing distilled water, gauze wads and smoking paper; preparing on the basis of sterilized distilled water 70%-ethyl alcohol solution and 0.005%-suspension of preparation produced from biomass; inspecting bulb onion; wiping each onion bulb with sterilized gauze wad soaked in ethyl alcohol solution; removing non-tightly adhering covering scale; holding in suspension of said preparation during 5 min; cutting-off neck part and cleaning base of each onion bulb; washing with ethyl alcohol solution, with neck part being oriented downward; drying at temperature of 35±5 C until residual moisture content of upper scale is 18-20%; wiping each onion bulb with sterilized gauze wad soaked in ethyl alcohol solution; exposing opposite sides of each bulb to ultraviolet radiation during 30 min at radiation intensity of 1.5-2.5 W/m³; packaging each of said onion bulbs under aseptic conditions into smoking paper and laying packaged bulbs in single layer into sterile polymeric trays. Method allows storage time of bulb onion at temperature of 25±2 C to be increased to 45 days.

EFFECT: prolonged storage time allowing fresh bulb onion to be used in space feeding.
