FIELD: well drilling, particularly to control oil and gas well drilling parameters during well drilling with hydraulic downhole motors.
SUBSTANCE: method involves measuring fluctuation of axial load applied to drilling bit; selecting current operability criteria; setting reference operability criteria values and comparing current operability criteria and reference ones to determine rock-cutting tool operability. Fractal dimensions are calculated with the use of plotted phase curves representing axial load when rock-cutting tool is in current condition D1 and initial drilling time when rock-cutting tool operates in optimal mode D2. Drilling-tool workability criterion is equal to γ=D1/D2. Reference γ values are determined for drilling bit having maximal wear.
EFFECT: increased accuracy of working rock-cutting tool operability determination due to recording of chaotic axial load fluctuation to be applied to drilling bit.
