FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines.
SUBSTANCE: proposed multichamber muffler contains cylindrical housing of oval cross-section with end face walls in which adjacent intake and exhaust chambers are formed being divided by common partition, and coaxial intake and exhaust branch pipes. Exhaust branch pipe communicates with exhaust chamber through open straight cut, and intake branch pipe communicates with intake chamber through perforated holes. Two groups of compensating holes are made in common partition between intake and exhaust chambers which are arranged in zone of smaller axis of partition oval on its opposite sides and symmetrically relative to larger axis of partition oval. Arrangement of holes in each group is symmetrical relative to smaller axis of partition oval, and summary area of compensating holes Fperf is found from expression Fperf=0.25-0.3Fpipe is are of through section of muffler intake branch pipe.
EFFECT: improved noise damping efficiency.
