FIELD: power-generating facilities and power installations using electrochemical generators.
SUBSTANCE: proposed electrochemical generator has fuel cell battery, fuel and oxidant lines with feed and blowdown valves, and at least one inert gas line incorporating gas return flow unit; the latter is made in the form of back-flow or gas valve. Electrochemical generator operating process includes fuel and oxidant feed under main condition at working pressure within fuel cell battery and inert gas feed thereto under shutdown condition; inert gas is supplied to respective cavity at pressure higher than atmospheric value but lower than working pressure when inert gas pressure is higher than fuel (oxidant) pressure in this cavity.
EFFECT: enhanced reliability due to eliminating excessive pressure difference between fuel cell battery cavities.
