FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: styrene is prepared by dehydrating ethylbenzene on ferric-oxide catalyst in water vapour containing atmosphere. The said method implies catalyst pre-heating first in inert atmosphere and then in water vapour containing atmosphere, followed by treating the catalyst with a mixture, which contains water vapour and reducing agent. The method is characterised in that an inert gas is additionally used at the second stage of catalyst heating, as well as during catalyst treatment and ethylbenzene dehydration.
EFFECT: improved activity of catalyst and selectivity of ethylbenzene dehydration.
