PHASED ANTENNA ARRAY ELEMENT Russian patent published in 2008 - IPC H01Q21/00 H01P1/19

Abstract RU 2325741 C1

FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: element of a feedthrough phased antenna array contains input and output dielectric radiators and a Faraday-type waveguide ferrite phase shifter. The phase shifter consists of a magnetisation winding inside of the magnetic conductor and a ferrite rod installed inside of the winding; the rod has the form of a right-angle prism with N edges where the number of the edges N>4. The magnetic conductor is designed as U-shaped brackets installed by one on each edge of the ferrite rod. The phased antenna array element waveguide is formed by the current-conducting coating of the ferrite rod side surface. There also are two radiator waveguides, two matching waveguides, the diameter of which is more than or equal to the diameter of a circle circumscribed about the ferrite rod cross section, and two short-circuiters with holes along the axis. Each matching dielectric insert is designed as a successive coaxial connection of a washer and a rod installed along the axis inside of the hole, in the cylindrical shank of the dielectric radiator, which is made of a material with a dielectric permeability εR=3.8...4.2. Ratios for selecting the dimensions of the matching dielectric insert, the cross section areas of the radiator waveguides, the matching waveguides, and the ferrite rod are given. The dielectric permeability values of the dielectric insert and ferrite rod materials are selected so as to match of the phase shifter with the radiators and to provide a single-wave operating mode. The phased antenna array element is placed in a shell designed as a metallic cylindrical sleeve connected to the radiator waveguides by a glued connection. The external surface of the shell has a printed circuit board, to the contacts of which the magnetisation winding wires led out through shell slots are connected.

EFFECT: creating compact element of feedthrough phased antenna array with low microwave losses and low weight.
