SORBENT BASED ON ULTRA-FINE GRAPHITE FOR DETOXICATION AND STERILISATION OF LIQUID OR GASEOUS MEDIA AND METHOD OF OBTAINING IT Russian patent published in 2008 - IPC B01J20/20 C01B31/04

Abstract RU 2327517 C1

FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: sorbent contains inflated particles of oxygen containing layered graphite, each particle of which has the following elementary percentage mass composition: carbon 78-82; oxygen 17-19; silicon constitutes the rest. The method of obtaining the sorbent involves treatment of natural graphite with 70% nitric acid, containing 1.0-1.5% mass % of potassium permanganate, washing of the formed oxide of graphite with water, drying, reaction with acid, capable of being restructured at 200-250°C to gaseous products, for example, chloric acid, thermal treatment at 200-250°C with obtaining of inflated layered graphite, which is later suspended in distilled water, filtered, frozen at temperature of -10 to -20°C, kept for 20-25 hours and melted. The separated water is filtered. The suspension is mixed with a 5% solution of sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) and boiled for 40-60 minutes, filtered, washed at the filter with distilled water until neutral pH is attained and dried at 150-200°C.

EFFECT: sorbent is not toxic; it does not contain iron and aluminium and is characterised by increased hydrophilic property.
