FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: comparison microscope can be applied in comparative analysis, particularly in criminal identification research. Comparison microscope includes two comparison branches, each consisting of the first and second objective lenses, image field aligning unit and observation and registration unit with the third objective lens, discrete zoom change device in the form of removable telescopic systems, switch mirror, video, TV and photo channels. Image field aligning unit is placed between comparison branches and observation and registration unit. The third objective lens features variable focal distance. In the first variant, at the third objective lens ratio of maximum to minimum focal distance is two, while removable telescopic systems have angular magnification divisible by two and four. In the second variant, the ratio of maximum to minimum focal distance of the third objective lens is equal to the ratio of maximum to minimum zoom of the microscope.
EFFECT: ensures steady image position against the centre of field of view of microscope by zooming in or out.
