FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention pertains to the method of catalytic hydrocracking of diphenylalkane for production of alkylbenzene(s), which consists of the following stages: reaction of 2-methyl-2,4-diphenylpentane with hydrogen with use of a catalyst, containing the metal, chosen from the group, consisting of IB groups of the periodic table of elements and compounds of group VIII metals, on an acidic carrier with obtaining of isopropyl benzene.
EFFECT: obtaining isopropyl benzene in relatively gentle conditions with minimum formation of by-products.
