FIELD: transportation.

SUBSTANCE: present invention pertains to the method and device for servicing an elevator or escalator. The method involves identification of the installation and transfer of working parameters of the installation to an imaging and control unit. Data and installation parameters are requested on the data channel between the imaging and control unit and remote service centre, and are then sent to the imaging and control unit. In the imaging and control unit, faults in the installation are identified, using a test-program, depending on comparison of working parameters and transferred data and parameters. Components of the installation are linked to corresponding identified faults and the protocol of faults is identified and drawn up, with specifications of the identified faults and identified components. The device has an interface, a device for controlling the installation, an imaging and control unit, a data transfer device for making a data channel to the service centre.

EFFECT: increased efficiency of servicing elevator or escalator installations.
