SUBSTANCE: present invention pertains to underground coal gasification, particularly to lighting up a coal bed. The method of lighting up a coal bed involves drilling a well down to the sill, determination of the well bottom, determination of the level of water in the well, putting a loading chamber over the well, sustaining the pressure of compressed air in the well, thereby squeezing-out from the well, removal of water from the place to be lit-up, putting incendiary charge into the loading chamber, with provision for retention of air-tightness of the loading chamber when letting the incendiary charge into the well, putting incendiary charge into the section of the gasification channel, air-blast supply and igniting the coal using incendiary charge.

EFFECT: cutting on labour input, increasing reliability, safety and efficiency of lighting up a coal bed.
