FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: furnace includes lined shaft bevelled in bottom, electrodes, introduced through side walls over bottom, ceiling. Above electrodes there is installed annular cowl with central chamber and nozzles for charging and discharging of magnesium. Cowl is installed with its nozzles moving on relative to bottom and ceiling. Clearance between nozzles of cowl and horizontal ceiling is 0.01 - 0.025 of cowl outside diameter, and footplate departure from horizontal line - no more than 0.001 of cowl outside diameter. Ratio of central chamber areas and annular gap between cowl and brickwork is 1:(1-3).
EFFECT: excluding of deformation possibility and disruption of furnace elements from thermal travel.
