SUBSTANCE: present invention pertains to processing data signals and can be used for processing audio signals, video signals or other multimedia signals. The device for processing data signals has apparatus for converting the data signals from a time domain, through block spectral resolution, into a time/spectral domain, apparatus for converting data signals from time/spectral domain through block spectral resolution into spectral/modulation spectral domain, involving spectral and modulation spectral measurement. The conversion apparatus is such that, the spectral/modulation spectral domain depends on the amplitude component and the component of the phase of the time/spectral domain of the data signal. The device also has apparatus for altering the data signals so as to obtain an altered spectral/modulation spectral domain and apparatus for generating a processed data signal, which is a processed version of the data signal, based on the altered spectral/modulation spectral domain. The method of processing data signals involves stages in accordance with functions of the above mentioned functional units. The method can be implemented using a machine-readable medium, on which a computer program is stored.
EFFECT: processing data signals, divided in accordance with modulation and carrier components, by a more controllable method.
