SUBSTANCE: invention is related to the field of communication. System and method for update of sleep mode identifier (SLPID identifier) of mobile station (MS) in communication system with broadband wireless access (BWA), having sleep mode, in which there is no transmission data, and active mode, in which there is transmission data. After recognition of necessity to update SLPID identifier assigned to mobile station in sleep mode, base station (BS) assigns new SLPID identifier to mobile station and transmits information of SLPID identifier update to mobile station. After reception of specified information, mobile station updates its current SLPID identifier for reassigned SLPID identifier.
EFFECT: increased efficiency of SPLID identifier updating process.
