FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: application has been submitted for length measurement method of hot-rolled mill products; using this method measured length is divided into number of basic sections and end position of hot-rolled mill product is determined by optical detectors, which optical axes pass at the borders of basic sections. Measurement inside basic sections is carried out by means of pulse transducer at travel drive for hot-rolled mill products; thereby measurement error due to blank sliding is calculated and diagnostic procedure of measuring instrument operation is arranged. Basic sections are arranged symmetrically in relation to the middle of blank length, mid-section is divided into two parts additionally with their common border located at distance ΔC= (0,5Lmin-Lms) from the middle alongside blank movement, where: Lmin - minimum measured length, Lms - value of length calculated by pulse transducer at which error of this value does not exceed absolute required measurement error, ΔC=0, if (0,5Lmin-Lms)≤0. Optical axis of the middle optical detector is set perpendicular to lateral surface of blank, optical axes of edge optical detectors are set at permanent oblique angle to this surface; angle value is determined at maximum distance to blank considering the following ratios: tgαc=LPlong max/L Scshort min, tgαed=LPshort max/L Sclong min distance between optical axes for central detectors is determined considering following formula: Lcentral=Lmin-2L kmax tgαc distance between optical axes for edge detectors is determined considering following formula: Ledge=Lmax-2L Dmax tgαed.

EFFECT: increase in length measurement accuracy of hot-rolled mill products by means of exclusion of optical detectors light-striking by optical disturbance formed by reflected light in the edge area of hot-rolled mill products.
