SUBSTANCE: invention relates to radio systems and is meant for forward error correction. The Viterbi decoder has a reconfigurable data route and a programmable terminal automatic device, which controls the reconfigurable data route. The configurable data route is formed from several reconfigurable functional units, comprising a reconfigurable unit for calculating branch metrics, and a reconfigurable unit for adding, comparing, selecting and calculating route metric. The terminal automatic device executes several context-related commands, associated with the reconfigurable Viterbi decoder.

EFFECT: increased noise immunity in program controlled radio communication systems.
