SUBSTANCE: invention relates to message handling. There is provision for message handlers, each of which identifies the corresponding handling operation of the message object, with a stream part with an interface directed on the stream. There is also provision for pipes, containing ordered sets of message handlers. The message object is handled by the message handlers in the message pipe such that, at least one message handler encapsulates the stream part of the message object through its corresponding handling operation. The corresponding handling operation should be done in the future, and it encapsulates the stream part of the message object without materialising the stream part in the buffer. The messaging system can be an intermediate point for routing the message object or an end point.

EFFECT: possibility of reducing requirements for the buffer in a messaging system, whereupon the messaging system can send and receive relatively large messages using the buffer of the given size.
