FIELD: electricity.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrical engineering, particularly to a superconducting cable and method of making it. The hollow superconducting cable (1) has an external sheath (2) with a circular inner cross-section and a cylindrical inner wall (3), and a central cooling channel (4) with a polygonal or circular cross-section, less than the inner cross-section of the external sheath (2). Between the external sheath (2) and the cooling channel (4) there are profiled superconducting electrical conductors (5). These profiled superconducting electrical conductors (5) have a cross-section with a shape similar that of a keystone, as it is known in design of Roman stone bridges or intersecting vaults. For this purpose the contour of the cross-section of the profiled superconducting electrical conductors has at least one external arched section (7) and an inner section (8), where the external arched section (7) is matched with the inner radius of the external sheath (2), and the inner arched section (8) - with the cooling channel (4). Lateral edges (12, 13) can either be straight, directed towards the centre (11) of the cooling channel, or profiled with deviation from such straightness.
EFFECT: compactness and mechanical stability of the structure with intense cooling of the superconductor.
