FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ferrous metallurgy, in particular to the heat treatment of rails. After being cut with the saws, 25 m long rails of type R65 are delivered sidelong to the cooling device with the temperature of 900-1000°C, then they are put opposite the cooling device with the ends of the rails projecting by 1 m over the cooling device. Compressed air blows on the surface of the rail head with the rate of 10-35 m3/min and the pressure of 3-5 atm and the temperature of 10-30°C or water is sprinkled with the rate of 1-5 l/min and the temperature of 10-30°C for 1.5-2.5 min.
EFFECT: reduced horizontal and vertical rail curvature as well as residual stress.
