FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to procedures of application of wear resistant coating on cutting tool and can be implemented at metal treatment. Vacuum-plasma application of multi-layer coating is performed. There is applied a lower layer out of nitride or carbonitride of a compound of titanium, silicon and aluminium at their ratio, wt %: titanium 86.0-87.3, silicon 0.7-1.0, and aluminium 12.0-13.0. Further there is applied an intermediary layer out of nitride or carbonitride of a compound of titanium, silicon, molybdenum and aluminium at their ratio, wt %: titanium 85.8-86.9, silicon 0.5-0.7, molybdenum 4.6-4.8, and aluminium 8.0-8.7; and finally there is applied an upper layer of nitride or carbonitride of a compound of titanium, silicon and molybdenum at their ratio, wt %: titanium 91.8-92.3, silicon 0.8-1.0, molybdenum 6.9-7.2. Application of coating is executed with three cathodes arranged horizontally in one plane. The first of the cathodes is complex and made out of titanium and aluminium, the second one is complex out of titanium and molybdenum and it is arranged opposite to the first cathode, while the third cathode is complex out of titanium and silicon and it is situated between the first and the second cathodes. The lower layer is applied with the first and the third cathodes. The intermediary layer is settled with all three cathodes. The upper layer is settled with the second and the third cathodes.

EFFECT: increased operating capacity of cutting tool.
