FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method involves determination of electric charge flowing through an object during lacquer coating through electrophoretic deposition, and surface area of the object in contact with the coating material. The surface area is determined from the maximum current (Jmax) passing through the object at the beginning of the coating process. The system has a bath with coating material in which the object is immersed and a voltage source, one positive terminal of which can be connected to the object, and the other to at least one electrode of opposite polarity in the bath. The system has apparatus for measuring electric charge flowing through the object, as well as a computing device which, based on the said charge and area, allows for determining thickness of the lacquer coating. The computing device can store in its memory, value of maximum current (Jmax), flowing through the object at the beginning of the coating process, and can determine surface area of the device in contact with liquid coating material, based on the maximum current value (Jmax). Thickness of the coating material can be determined during the coating process.
EFFECT: reduced number of substandard products.
