SUBSTANCE: invention refers to metal deformation process, and namely to tube making. Method involves measurement of wall thickness of hollow workpiece P at lower part of the groove in rolling mill No. 1 by means of ultrasonic thickness gauge 1 installed between it and rolling mill No. 2. Outer diametre of mandrel bar B is calculated based on the specified value of the gap between rolls in rolling mill No. 1 and wall thickness of lower part of hollow workpiece P. Location in longitudinal direction of bar B of mandrel for which outer diametre was calculated is determined based on the information on location of holder BR of the bar. Distribution of outer diametre of mandrel bar in longitudinal direction is calculated by repeating the above steps. Location in longitudinal direction of mandrel bar which contacts hollow workpiece in the following rolling mill is determined based on information on location of bar holder. Roll clearance in the next rolling mill is specified on the basis of outer diametre of the specified location in longitudinal direction of mandrel bar.
EFFECT: invention provides manufacture of hollow tube workpiece with high measurement accuracy.
