FIELD: metalworking.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of seamless metal pipe of a hollow tubular billet. Reduced cost of product is possible due to the fact that selection of mandrel rod including working part is made, having length corresponding to the number of stands, used for reduction of thickness, among multiple cores of the mandrel, input of selected mandrel rod into hollow tubular billet and extension of hollow tubular billet, having rod holder inside. While elongating, outer diameter decreasing is made in the preliminary stage stands or in stands of the next stage, and thickness of hollow billet decreasing is made in stands of preliminary stage or in stands of the next stage, or reduction of thickness is carried out both in the preliminary stage stands and stands of the next stage.
EFFECT: method involves preparation of a plurality of mandrel rods, having length of working parts, which come into contact with a hollow tubular billet during elongation, differ from each other.
